Top GRRL!'s World Premiere at Edinburgh Fringe
I did it!
Tonight, Top GRRL! premiered to the world at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
I had three actual audience members.
But add to that: two staff members from the bar; my flier, Audrey: my tech Jack (a fellow performer); and fellow drag queen performer Teena, who I met just an hour before my show.
And then there were the three very straight-looking guys. Total jocks. I knew instantly they were not my audience.
But, in all, I had TEN people to perform to.
I am extremely grateful. Ten is more than double the average attendance at Fringe. Last year, I cancelled my first show last year because no one came.
And halfway through my performance, the straight jocks got up and left.
It is my fault as an artist. My advertising images went way overboard with the sex. I’m attracting the straight guys who go see the Ladyboys Bangkok. And they are greeted by a big old gay drag queen instead. I’m learning as an artist. It’s trial and error.
In any case, one down. 20 more to go.
